MATCHA MANGO MADNESS SMOOTHIE BOWL

I fell in love with smoothie bowls when I discovered my first one living in New York over 5 years ago. It was like having a bowl of ice cream for breakfast after my morning workouts. I was obsessed with the creamy texture of the smoothie, topped with crunchy granola and fresh fruit. Then to make it even better, you would have all the add-ins and elixirs for a boost. I loved everything about it. However, I was not thrilled about my expensive new habit especially living in New York. I decided to buy all the ingredients, add-ins, and toppings to make smoothie bowls myself at home. Save all the coins for my laundry.

Matcha is great for anyone looking to cut back on coffee, but still needing that extra boost. It is basically concentrated green tea leaves ground into a fine powder. You are essentially consuming the whole leaf minus the stems and veins rather than letting it steep in water and drinking the liquid the leaves have steeped in. I benefit from the focused-energy which my sometimes scattered brain needs. I also feel like I don’t crash like I do when I drink a strong cup of coffee.

Hack: Prepare little Ziploc baggies of fruit, veggies, seeds, etc. and throw them in the freezer.  I make different combinations with my favorite fruit and veggies so I have options. It’s a great way to use fruit or veggies that are about to go bad in your fridge. Just label the baggies so you know what to grab when you want it. Add milk, mix-ins and blend!

Ingredients:

Smoothie-

1/4 cup of  frozen cubes mango

1/4 cup of a frozen banana

½ cup spinach

1 teaspoon of organic matcha powder (I use the Sunfoods brand you can find online) or 2 scoops of Vital Proteins matcha collagen powder to give my hair skin and nails some TLC too.

2 scoops of Collagen powder

1 teaspoon honey

1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk or milk of choice

Directions:

  1. Add everything to a blender and blend until creamy. I have a Ninja which I love!

  2. Add more milk if it is too think. I like mine more on the thick side. I find that it doesn’t melt as fast.

  3. Top with fresh raspberries, blueberries, pomegranate seeds, unsweetened shaved coconut, and hemp seeds for a crunch! Your favorite granola would be great too! You can get creative with what you want to top with. I just use what I already have in my fridge and pantry.
